Je collectionne les cocktails vus dans les films depuis les années 1980. Vers 1933, deux choses coïncident ; La fin de la Prohibition et Hollywood sort des « talkies » (films où l'on entend les acteurs parler). Greta Garbo était une grande star du cinéma muet dans les années 1920 et a changé son film parlant en 1930. Ses fans étaient très excités d'entendre sa voix pour la première fois, et l'équipe marketing a attisé le feu en annonçant l'événement avec le slogan "Garbo Talks!" D'ailleurs, quels ont été ses premiers mots, demandez-vous ? "Donnez-moi un whisky, soda au gingembre à part."

Il est instructif de savoir que la première fois que les femmes ont été autorisées à entrer dans la salle principale des bars (et pas seulement dans le petit "Ladies' Bar" pour les femmes éminentes) remonte aux années 1920, pendant la Prohibition. Avant cela, une femme n'était autorisée dans le bar principal que si elle était une prostituée ou une madame. Par conséquent, la première expérience de bar de la plupart des femmes américaines a eu lieu dans des bars illégaux et secrets entre les années 1920 et 1933. La combinaison des femmes américaines autorisées à boire socialement et de la technologie de pointe d'Hollywood a créé une glamourisation du cocktail.

À l'époque du cinéma muet, il y avait beaucoup de scènes captivantes, en particulier dans les films de Charlie Chaplin. Pendant la Prohibition américaine, les scènes de beuverie se déroulaient simplement dans des pays qui n'étaient pas en Prohibition. A Horse's Neck est commandé dans le film de 1914 Caught in a Cabaret , un Whiskey and Soda est réalisé dans le film de 1917 The Idle Class , et les Manhattans sont ivres dans le film de 1928 Manhattan .

Un film de trente secondes mérite d'être mentionné. C'était un film publicitaire intitulé DeWar's - It's Scotch , et a été projeté sur un mur du Herald Square de New York en 1898. C'est la première publicité de spiritueux à apparaître sur un film.

Tatie Mame dit que ça prend trop de place dans la boisson.

Les autres boissons vues et mentionnées dans le film incluent Mint Juleps, Drambuie et Cognac. Il y a aussi une scène où Mame sert un cocktail de spécialité appelé "le Flaming Mame", qui est servi dans un grand verre à pied en métal de forme conique avec la boisson allumée en feu. C'est une blague qu'elle fait à ses invités pour les rembourser de lui avoir servi de mauvais cocktails chez eux.

Ce film mettant en vedette Rock Hudson, Bobby Darin et Sandra Dee a été le tout premier film diffusé sur des vols transcontinentaux et intercontinentaux. Rock Hudson boit beaucoup de champagne et il y a même une scène avec un oiseau perché sur le bord d'un verre en train de se saouler au champagne. Dans une scène, Rock boit un Martini pour le petit déjeuner. Le serviteur lui demande s'il y a autre chose qu'il pourrait vouloir et Rock répond "une olive". La meilleure scène est celle où Rock s'occupe du bar et sert du brandy à Bobby Darin et ses amis.

Dans une autre scène, Elvis remplit une paille avec une boisson au bord de la piscine, puis la dépose sur le ventre d'une femme baigneuse de soleil.

Jim Backus est aux commandes d'un avion et laisse les commandes pour mixer un Old-Fashioned.

Jerry Lewis joue Buddy Love et commande un Alaskan Polar Bear Heater au bar. Il doit donner au barman les ingrédients : « Deux shots de vodka, un peu de rhum, du bitter, un trait de vinaigre, un shot de vermouth, un shot de gin, un peu de brandy, un zeste de citron, un zeste d'orange, un cerise, et un peu plus de scotch. This film holds the record for the most cocktails mentioned. Three are made and mentioned: Red Eye (beer, tomato juice, spices, and a raw egg), Turquoise Blue (the drink Cruise makes while flairing—it appears to be made with Bacardi light rum, blue Curaçao, and either pineapple juice or sour mix, then split tin strained into a Martini glass), and a Frozen Daiquiri poured into a Hurricane glass.
